Abstract: The article examines the key aspects of lean production as a strategy for improving the efficiency of industrial enterprises in the mechanical engineering sector. The authors analyze seven types of waste identified by Taiichi Ohno and suggest modern methods for their minimization using digital technologies and automated systems. Special attention is paid to solutions such as the “Schedule” software tool for JIT-schedule synthesis, ERP and PLM systems, automated transport and storage systems, and non-destructive quality control methods. Implementation of the suggested technologies helps reduce resource intensity, improve product quality, and minimize time costs, aligning with the principles of Lean Production.

Abstract: The implementation of the concept of lean manufacturing is an urgent task not only for industrial enterprises, but also for educational institutions around the world. Foreign experience shows that the introduction of lean production principles in educational institutions can not only optimize processes but also make them more sustainable and environmentally responsible. Despite the fact that the lean production concept was initially aimed at the formation and implementation of the production system in the activities of enterprises, at reducing costs and increasing efficiency, which in turn increased the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry as a whole, the tools and methods of the concept began to be applied and implemented in the activities of organizations and companies of various sectoral orientation. In this study, a key emphasis is placed on the consideration of aspects of the lean production concept that will improve the activities of educational institutions, particularly the process of training specialists for the engineering industry, using the example of colleges in St. Petersburg.
